Knife Sharpening

We can sharpen nearly every type of blade, prices are based solely on the length of the blade, not it’s characteristics(ie. the type of steel it’s made from will not be a factor in determining price).

We can sharpen –

  • Kitchen knives
  • Bushcrafting/hunting knives
  • Pocket knives
  • Plane blades
  • Chisels

We have experience working with high HRC(very hard carbon steel) steel knives, including specialised single bevel Japanese knives, knives with asymmetrical bevels, as well as European style knives and more.

We don’t currently sharpen serrated knives or ceramic knives.

Pricing

Our pricing structure for dulled blades is quite simple.  It is £1.00 per inch of knife length with a minimum charge of £5.00.  These prices include VAT at current rates so if you are a VAT registered business the net cost to you is £0.83p per inch (minimum £4.17p).

If you are a new customer then the first blade, or shortest one in a set, is free.

This price is for kitchen knives up to 14 inches long, craft, pocket, hunting and other general cutting knives.

Plane blades are £5 per item, or £1 per inch if larger than 5 inches. Chisels are £3 per item (inc. VAT). Some woodworkers might want their plane blades or chisels sharpened to specific requirements, they might for example want a secondary bevel, you can request this at no extra charge.

Please note that we will not sharpen daggers or swords or any other type of potentially offensive weapon.  (Yes, all knives are potential weapons in the wrong hands but here we mean swords, daggers, flick knives and similar.  We reserve the right to refuse certain items on inspection.)

Knife Repair and Restoration

Most minor repairs are included in the price of the sharpening, small dents or chips(<2mm) along bevel of the blade will be repaired during the sharpening process at no extra cost.

You might however have a knife with more serious damage that requires re-profiling the the entire blade, or perhaps you have an old knife that’s rusted and in general disrepair, we can fix those too!

As for pricing this would have to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, feel free to use the contact form if you have any questions about a blade you’d like repaired. Nominally pricing for fixing a badly chipped blade that requires a serious edge regrind would be anywhere from £10-£20.
